Sedgwick County's fiscal condition remains sound, according to a quarterly report.
During the first three quarters of 2025, the county is nearly $1.07 million in the black. Investment earnings have been helpful for the county, lowering dependence on property taxes to fund government functions.
When it comes to using those property tax dollars, Commissioner Jim Howell says the county is very efficient and is a well-run organization.
Several factors out of the county's control include the federal government shutdown, global geopolitical risk, inflation and interest rates and decisions by the Kansas Legislature.
