Sedgwick County's fiscal condition remains sound during the second quarter of 2025.

Hope Hernandez, Accounting Director, said the county had a $4.3 million increase in revenue over expenditures and ended the second quarter with a fund balance of $231.4 million.

Global geopolitical risks, along with inflation and interest rates, are the top two pressures the county faces.

Their 2026 operating budget will be approved in two weeks. The commission has a goal of reducing reliance on property taxes by exploring alternative revenue sources, like a sales tax.

The finance department prepares the report at the end of the month following the end of each calendar quarter.

For the first time since 2019, the county has updated its Strategic Plan.

The revised plan is organized around five broad goals that will drive their work and budget priorities over the next several years. Those include: service and resource optimization, workforce and culture, technology, communications and public trust.

The county has identified key performance indicators for each goal in order to measure progress and provide transparency.

Input was gathered from Commissioners, local and regional partners, community stakeholders and county employees.
