At 7:43 p.m. Wednesday the National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for Wabaunsee, Geary and Morris Counties. Shortly after, a tornado was reported on the ground in Alma heading northeast.
According to the Wabaunsee County Sheriff's Office, at least half a dozen tornadoes were confirmed by spotters and sheriff's office staff. Damage has been reported to structures in the rural area of the county.
There were no injuries reported, the tornadoes touched down and remained in rural areas. Massive chunks of hail pelted parts of Kansas and Missouri on Wednesday night, bringing traffic to a standstill along Interstate 70. Descriptions of the hail ranged from the size of golf balls and apples, to softballs and baseballs.
