Severe weather is a growing concern for the Wichita area Sunday evening.
A line of thunderstorms is expected to develop over western Kansas in the late afternoon and race eastward during the evening. Right now, we expect the storms to arrive in the Wichita metro around 8 to 10 p.m.
Damaging winds will be the biggest concern here in south central Kansas, along with some large hail and heavy rain. An isolated tornado can't be ruled out, but the threat for that is rather low.
If you have travel plans into Oklahoma, the Storm Prediction Center is particularly concerned about the possibility of straight-line winds exceeding 80-100 mph. A few tornadoes will be possible there, especially in the southwest corner of the Sooner State.
