Small aircraft crash lands near Wichita's Towne West Square

A small aircraft made an emergency landing in the middle of a road in west Wichita Friday evening.

It happened just before 7 p.m. on Tracy Street, near Towne West Mall.

Wichita Police said the pilot contacted Air Traffic Control at Eisenhower Airport to report engine trouble. She located Tracy Street which had no traffic or vehicles on it and landed the plane.

The pilot was shaken but escaped the incident unharmed, as the plane only hit a couple of street signs.

The FAA and the NTSB will investigate the incident.

Original story: A small aircraft has crashed in front of Towne West Square. It happened around 7:00 p.m. Friday night in the 4600 block of W. Kellogg Drive. Drivers are advised to avoid the area. Additional information was not immediately available.
