Police officers responded to a robber at Academy Sports on Maize Rd., at around 9:50 a.m. Wednesday morning. They were told that a man walked out without paying for several items and threatened an employee with a knife. A short time later they located the suspect's vehicle, and a chase began.
The vehicle entered the southbound lanes of I-135 at 2nd Street North, heading north in the wrong direction before exiting at 13th Street. The SUV then turned east on 13th, where the driver lost control, struck a curb, and hit a building at Madison Street.
The driver fled on foot, and officers were able to catch up to him and took him into custody. The other man inside the vehicle, who was believed to be the same suspect in the Academy Sports robbery, was also arrested.
