A man already in custody at the Saline County Jail, has been charged in the disappearance and death of a Salina man.
Joseph Housman, 48, of Salina, has been charged in the murder of Nathan Thompson, 44, also of Salina. The charges against Houseman include: First-degree murder; Aggravated arson; Arson; Felony interference with law enforcement and criminal desecration
Houseman, has been incarcerated at the Saline County Jail on unrelated charges since June 16, He had been named as a suspect in the case for the death of Thompson on July 29, 2022.
On June 13, 2022, the Salina Fire Department responded to a trailer home fire in the 1600 block of Elgin in Salina, where Thompson was living at the time. It was later learned that Thompson had not been seen for a week. Thompson's absence from a court hearing on June 14 prompted the Salina Police Department, (SPD), to begin an investigation.
On July 19, the Ellsworth County Sheriff's Office responded to a rural area in Ellsworth County after a body had been discovered in a field. The KBI was notified and investigated the area. An autopsy on July 21 confirmed that the individual had been killed, and the death was listed as a homicide.
On July 22, Thompson was identified with the help of dental records.
