Suspect arrested in Wichita Riverside Park murder

Suspect arrested
Wichita Police

A suspect in the shooting death of a man at Wichita's Riverside Park is now in custody.

According to jail records, Daniel Carpenter, 33, of Wichita, was booked late Friday on suspicion of first-degree murder in the commission of a felony.

The police department had released a surveillance photo Friday, saying that the man in the photo was a suspect in a homicide investigation.

On Thursday, Sept. 2, officers responded to a welfare check call in the 800 block of W.
Murdock. They found a man who was unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  Jason Huber, 32, of Wichita was transported to an area hospital where he died a short time later.

In a media release Friday morning, officials indicated that a Dodge City man, 28, had been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery in the death of Huber. But police said later in the day that the man was no longer a suspect in the murder, but was being held on an outstanding warrant.

Investigators later released a surveillance photo that showed a man at a nearby business at the same time as Huber before the shooting. The man left the business driving a white Buick La Sabre, and Huber left on a bicycle, both going west toward the park.

Police say Huber was shot at Murdock and Stackman Drive, and his bicycle was taken.
