This week marks the end of the 2026 Kansas legislative session in Topeka; Friday is the final day to pass any bills to the Governor’s desk.

It's been a shorter session than usual, but hundreds of bills have been passed.

One item that’s seen a focus from the beginning is a bell-to-bell cell-phone ban for schools.

So far, this year's session has seen 20 bills signed into law by Gov. Laura Kelly.

Another bill of note is the App Store Accountability Act, still going through the House of Representatives; it would require kids to get parents’ permission to download apps by having everyone upload a form of ID.

After the session ends, the legislature will recess for two weeks before returning to Topeka for the veto session, scheduled for April 9th and 10th. This will give lawmakers a chance to debate any bills vetoed by the governor.

Kelly has vetoed two bills so far, and that number is likely to increase after Friday.
