
The Wichita Police Department (WPD), has made an arrested in a weekend shooting.
Last Friday night, July 14 at approximately 11:40 p.m., officers were sent to a shooting call in the 700 block of W. Maywood. Officers arrived and located two men, parked in a vehicle. A man, 19. sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and a boy, 17, sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso area. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment and are in critical but stable condition.
The investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident in the area of I-235 and Meridian. An eyewitness observed an altercation between the victims and a black sedan. The black sedan fired multiple rounds at the victim’s vehicle and left the area.
With the assistance of social media posts, officers and detectives were able to identify the suspected shooter and take him into custody.
A man, 18, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery, criminal discharge of a firearm and criminal use of a firearm.
Formal charges are pending.
