One teen is dead after a drowning at a lake in southwest Wichita. Emergency crews were sent to the Kingston Cove apartments near 27th St and Osage Sunday afternoon. Witnesses reported seeing a group of juveniles swimming in a lake at the apartment complex when they saw one of them go underwater.
Police Sgt. Husam Shourbaji says the other swimmers made a rescue attempt, and then onlookers at the lake also jumped in, but their rescue efforts failed.
Firefighters recovered the victim from the lake. Police say alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
