At Wednesday's meeting, the Sedgwick County Commission will approve a proclamation that this is The Week of the Young Child. Commission Chair Ryan Baty tells KNSS News studies show children are capable of learning a great deal before entering school. Baty says research indicates that if a youngster can't read well by the third grade, that child will have learning problems years later.
Sedgwick County is taking action to deal with possible reduction or elimination of federal grants by the Trump administration. Baty tells KNSS News a special 12-member board will monitor the federal grant situation and report to the Commission weekly. Ryan Baty commented during his weekly chat with Steve and Ted in the Morning on KNSS.
