By a 4-3 vote, the Wichita City Council narrowly approves a project that will bring TopGolf to northeast Wichita at 29th and Greenwich.

This is another big project for the K-96 and Greenwich STAR bond district, which currently includes the Stryker Sports Complex, the Wichita Sports Forum and various retail and dining establishments.

Todd Waldo with TopGolf, says the venue would be family and community oriented and would be a big boost to the local economy by bringing around 280 jobs and nearly a million dollars in annual tax revenue.

Under the agreement, $1 million of the funds from this project will go to Stryker to improve locker rooms, showers and to improve safety.

After obtaining the necessary permits and completing applications and studies, construction is slated to begin in April 2022 and should be finished by March 2023. The center would open within 90 days of completion.

Vice Mayor Brandon Johnson, council members Jared Cerullo and Jeff Blubuagh voted no on the project.
