
Washburn University President Jerry Farley says he plans to retire in September. The university announced Monday that Farley will retire on Sept. 30. He has led the school in Topeka since July 1997.

After retirement, Farley will become president emeritus to focus on fundraising and international student recruitment. He says he has been discussing his retirement with the university board for more than two years to ensure an orderly transfer.
The Washburn Board of Regents will release details about its search for Farley's replacement in the coming weeks.
