Watchdog: Kansas university president is silencing faculty

Silence

The president at Haskell Indian Nations University has been accused by an academic watchdog group of restricting the free speech rights of the faculty. It's the latest First Amendment dustup to engulf the Kansas college.

Haskell President Ronald Graham, sent "non-negotiable" directives after experiencing what he calls "detractors" to his decisions. Graham is barring employees from expressing derogatory opinions about the administration and others.

The memo comes just days after a lawsuit was filed by the student newspaper editor. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education is a nonprofit that aims to protect free speech rights on college campuses. It is demanding Graham rescind the directives to employees.
