The Sedgwick County Election Office has a new home in northeast Wichita after county leaders unveiled the updated facility this month.

The office relocated from the Historic Courthouse in downtown Wichita to 3639 N. Comotara St., near 37th Street North and Rock Road. County officials said the move brings election staff, equipment, and operations together under one roof for the first time.

The new facility is designed to improve efficiency, security, and public access ahead of future elections. County leaders said the office includes upgraded security features, additional storage space, training and meeting rooms, and public viewing areas for ballot tabulation and sorting.

Sedgwick County Election Commissioner Laura Rainwater said the new office will help staff better serve voters and streamline election operations.

The site will continue to function as an early in-person voting location and offers more than 100 parking spaces along with nearby Wichita Transit bus access.

County commissioners approved the building purchase in February 2024 for $4.5 million. The overall project budget totaled nearly $5.9 million and included remodeling, fencing, signage and security upgrades.

County officials said some remodeling work is expected to continue through late November, with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony planned later this year.

The move follows nearly a decade of discussions and planning surrounding the Election Office’s future location and operational needs.
