The connector bridge from westbound U.S. 54 to southbound Eisenhower Airport Parkway in Wichita will be closed for maintenance starting Tuesday, May 28, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The rehabilitation project will involve painting the bridge rail, deck drain cleaning and additional standard repairs.

Work on this bridge is one in a three-phase bridge rehabilitation project scheduled this year at the Eisenhower Airport Parkway/U.S. 54 interchange. The bridge work will take place consecutively. Maintenance for the first bridge is set to conclude in early July, then work on the second bridge will begin. It is estimated the last bridge in the project will conclude by early November, conditions permitting.

To follow the signed detour, motorists should continue westbound on U.S. 54 and take the exit onto Tyler Road. From there, drivers should take eastbound U.S. 54 and exit onto West Kellogg Drive. Follow West Kellogg Drive to southbound Eisenhower Airport Parkway.

The map above outlines the project area and the detour route.

Wildcat Construction, of Wichita, is the primary contractor for the $1,263,632 project.

KDOT urges all motorists to be alert of the signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. To stay aware of all road construction projects across Kansas, go to www.kandrive.org or call 5-1-1.
