A Wichita woman says Facebook deleted her business page, leaving her facing financial hardship. She said her political views were mistaken for violence, and her rights have been violated.
KAKE News is reporting Jessica Pereira and her husband started their own painting business after they were laid off due to COVID. Pereira used her personal Facebook account to share her conservative views and show her support for former President Trump. Last week Facebook deleted all of Pereira's accounts, including her business page. "All of our business contacts, our scheduling, the way to reach customers and we haven't had a job since and so now we're struggling again", Pereira said.
Facebook said Pereira "violated community standards" and claimed some groups she belonged to "instigated violence."
Pereira also started the page "Kansas Rallies" on Facebook. The group was used to get the word out about Trump rallies and it was a space for political conversation. Now, Pereira is using the loss of her Facebook pages as fuel to be even louder. "I'm not going away, in fact, it makes me want to run for office. It makes me want to show people that conservatives are good people."
