The Wichita City Council has deferred a vote on purchasing the Park Elementary School property from Wichita USD 259 for use as a Multi-Agency Center to address homelessness.
The delay comes as the Wichita School board won't discuss the resolution to potentially sell the property to the city until June 27.
Most of the residents who spoke on the issue were not in favor of the MAC potentially being placed in the mid-town area.
Unless 259 holds a special meeting, the city's next chance to discuss the item will be on July 2. Should the school board and city come to an agreement, the Kansas Legislature has up to 45 days to approve the sale.
The facility would also need repairs and a required zone change, shortening the window to open the facility in time for the winter months.
