At Tuesday's meeting, the Wichita City Council will look at a police department request for 31 more FLOCK Safety Readers.They take photos of license plates to try and track suspects and stolen vehicles. Mayor Lily Wu tells KNSS News since implementng the FLOCK system four years ago, the cameras are credited with recovering more than $5.4 million in stolen property. They've also assisted in solving violent crimes, including homicides.
The council will also consider assisting developers to bring affordable apartments to the downtown area. Mayor Wu says one of the proposed projects would be the renovation of an 11-story building at 155 north Market, to create 114 affordable housing units. Developers envision rents at between $659 to $1041 a month.
