The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has suspended the licensing of a Wichita day care center.
The suspension occurred on Thursday for His Loving Hands Home Childcare, located at 357 N. Erie.
The KDHE ordered the suspension after a youngster was discovered with second-degree burns on September 5. The youngster sustained burns to the buttocks, thighs, and feet, as well as second-degree burns to the lower limbs.
KSN News reports two other children were found with bruises and scratches on Sept. 6. Those two children were placed into protective police custody and transported to the Wichita Children's Home.
Law officers interviewed the licensee on or about Sept. 9. The KDHE report says the licensee admitted to smacking one of the children, causing bruising. The licensee also admitted to making one of the children sit in a hot bath, resulting in the burns. The report goes on to say that the licensee was arrested on suspicion of one count of child abuse. The licensee has not been charged.
The KDHE secretary can suspect the license of day care to protect any child from physical or mental abuse, abandonment, or any other substantial threat to health or safety.
