Wichita East High School is celebrating 100 years of the east side of the building and the building tower on Friday, October 6 and Saturday October 7. Steve and Ted spoke with Brian Rhodes, Class of '73 to preview the festivities.
Wichita High School opened in 1873. East High School opened its doors at Douglas and Grove on October 8, 1923. At that time, it was still called Wichita High School until North High School opened in 1929. Over the past 100 years, more than 55,000 students have graduated from East High.
Friday, October 6
8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Student activities and pep rally
4 p.m. Homecoming football game at East High
Following the football game – performance by the 100 Year Alumni Band and alumni tailgate
Saturday, October 7
10 a.m. Parade on Douglas from Hydraulic to Grove
11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Block party on the front lawn and building tours. Performances by the alumni band and choir, speakers, activities, food and more.
