Firefighters battled a large fire at the old Joyland amusement park site in the south part of Wichita.
It was just before 1:00 a.m. Wednesday in the 2800 block of S. Hillside. Arriving crews found the remains of Joyland’s old wooden roller coaster burning with intense flames, along with nearby outbuildings and surrounding brush.
The location made the fire difficult, because the site sits off the road, forcing crews to stretch long hose lines deep into the property to reach the blaze.
Fire crews will be on the scene during daylight hours to check for hot spots, and continued inspection of the damage.
