Wichita mayor knows why COVID test rate is lower

The Sedgwick County positivity rate for COVID testing is at its lowest level in months, at 7.3 percent. Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple tells KNSS News there are several reasons for the lower rate. He mentions no big holiday gatherings, people are taking the proper precautions, and "we're seeing more vaccines".

Johnson and Johnson is promising a new COVID vaccine that is not quite as effective as the current vaccines, but available in just one dose. The mayor says that could be a game changer.


The Wichita City Council will continue to work on an ethics policy for the city, after Mayor Brand Whipple and city council member Jeff Blubaugh got into a heated discussion during a first meeting on the subject. Mayor Whipple says Wichitans deserve to know that tax dollars are being spent honestly.
