Starting today (Thursday), Wichita residents may begin shooting off aerial fireworks legally within the city limits.
The city permits aerial fireworks between July 3-5, from 10:00 a.m.-midnight on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
This year marks a change for the fireworks laws in Wichita; this year it’s legal to sell aerial fireworks in the city limits. Many fireworks tents are operated by non-profit organizations trying to raise money.
One group said the change to the city’s ordinance helps them, since Wichita residents aren’t having to drive to stands outside the city to buy aerial fireworks.
Residents are advised to use the non-emergency phone-line for any fireworks-related complaints. That number is (316) 290-1011.
Calls to 9-1-1 are for emergencies only.
Last year, aerial fireworks were not allowed to be sold inside the Wichita city limits, but the laws have changed in 2025.
