A recent study from a structural engineer uncovered problems with the science wing of the school, and recommended that the wing be vacated at the end of the current semester.

Facility Director Luke Newman outlined for the board plans to correct the problems.  He said that there are eighteen science classes that will be displaced.  “The East High stall has freed up eight spaces inside the school,” Newman said.  “The other ten classes will be relocated to “B” building of the WSU Tech City Center campus, located just south of East High School,” he added.

While the spaces are currently being remodeled, they are expected to be ready for the teachers following the Christmas break on January 4.

The board voted to approve the selection process for an acritical firm to being the project, with an estimated construction cost between $5M and $10M, using Capitol Dollars for the funding.

The board will hear public comments on the plan at the next meeting on January 10.
