The USD 259 school board will soon vote on a proposal that would increase school lunch prices by 25 cents.

The price increase is due to significant increases in food prices, labor costs, paper products and serving products.

School officials say that prior to the pandemic, around 75% of families in the school district were eligible for free and reduced meals. WPS encourages all families in the district to apply and fill out a free and reduced meal application, which will be available to district families beginning July 1.

Families who qualify for the program will not have to pay for any increases in school lunches during the 2022-2023 school year. Breakfasts will be free for all students.
