At Tuesday's Wichita City Council meeting, the board approved the sale of the facility at 21st and Opportunity Drive in northeast Wichita, the site of an emergency shelter this past winter.

The city approved the sale of the facility to Habitat for Humanity for $682,500. Habitat plans to use the facility for offices and provide warehouse space for their construction program.

The motion passed 5-1-1, as Council member J.V. Johnston voiced concerns with selling the property to the lowest bidder.

Proceeds from the sale will be set aside to fund costs associated with the development of the future Multi-Agency Center, to address homelessness in the city.
