The city of Wichita will receive two grants totaling $2.15 million, in an effort to reduce violent crime.
The Wichita Police Department was awarded $500 thousand from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, and $1.65 million from the Community Oriented Policing Services. This combined funding will help establish a 24/7 Real Time Crime Center, a centralized location to monitor surveillance cameras, social media and other technology to proactively address crime. In other communities that have established a real-time crime center, crime has been greatly reduced.
The city also plans to purchase more Flock cameras, critical in solving crimes along with crime analysis software.
