The Wichita City Council has approved a 5.13 percent rate increase for its water and sewer customers in 2022.

City officials cited two factors driving the increase in your monthly bill. The first is major capital improvement projects the city is undertaking, like the Northwest Water treatment Facility currently under construction.
In addition, the proposed sewer treatment plant is in the design phase. The city learned last week that they would move forward with their application for federal funding for the facility.
The other factor leading to the rate hike is the increase in cost of operations and maintenance of the current city water and sewer infrastructure.
For mid-residential customers who use around 7500 gallons of water a month, water and sewer rates would go up a combined $3.77 a month.
