
A Wichita woman will spend over five decades in prison in the death of a bicyclist. Charity Blackmon, 32, pleaded guilty to second degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon in March.

On Friday she was sentenced to 554 months, or 46 years and two months. After she is released, she will be on post release for 36 months. In addition she must register for the rest of her life under the Kansas Offender Registration Act.
In March 2021, police say Blackmon hit Merrill Rabus, 54, as he rode his bicycle at 13th and Oliver. They said she got out of her van and shot Rabus before driving away.
Witnesses followed Blackmon, and she was later arrested near the intersection of 14th and Green.
