The first winter storm of 2024 has moved across south-central Kansas.
During the overnight hours, rain changed to snow, affecting the Friday morning commute in the city.
As the snow began to fall, heavy at times, several school districts in the area made the decision to cancel classes for the day. KNSS News provided school closings and live traffic updates on "Steve & Ted in the Morning".
In Wichita, Friends University closed its campus; however, Wichita Public Schools decided to remain in session. The district posted on social media that the warm ground temperatures and good condition of city streets were factors in the decision.
As of mid-morning, four inches of snow had fallen in Spivey in Kingman County; three inches of snow had fallen at Wichita's Eisenhower Airport, and three inches were also on the ground in the Maize area.
