Wichita native Sam Stevens finished tied for sixth at The American Express on Sunday, shooting a bogey-free 5-under 67 to close at 22-under par for the tournament.

The strong performance earned Stevens $322,000 and pushed him to No. 40 in the Official World Golf Ranking — more than 100 spots higher than his 2024 finish. It marks his first top-10 of the 2026 PGA Tour season.

Stevens, 29, opened with a tournament-low 8-under 64 and stayed consistent throughout, capping Sunday's round with five birdies including a clutch 13-footer on the par-3 17th.

The Kapaun Mt. Carmel graduate and Oklahoma State alum is building on a breakout 2025 season that included two runner-up finishes and advancement to the BMW Championship. He ranked in the top 40 on Tour in driving distance, scrambling, and birdies last year.

A third-generation pro golfer following his grandfather Johnny and father Charlie, Stevens earned his PGA Tour card in 2022 after years grinding through developmental tours.

He's now 13th in early FedExCup standings and heads to Torrey Pines this week for the Farmers Insurance Open, where he finished second last year.
