A woman suffered critical injuries in an apartment fire west of downtown Wichita.
The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, in an apartment in th 3,000 block of west Newell near McLean and west Central.
Fire crews found the woman still inside the apartment, and she was transported to a hospital burn unit, with critical injuries.
Fire Chief Jose Ocadiz, says, the apartment was damage, but other units did not have much damage. "They have separate utilities, so the utilities on the fire apartment have been disconnected," Ocadiz said.
Officials say the fire began in the kitchen, but a cause remains under investigation.
