A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper made a routine traffic stop on I-135 near Lincoln at about 8:30 this (Friday) morning.
The trooper went to his patrol car to request backup to determine if the 5th-wheel trailer the female driver was towing was stolen. As he returned to the truck, the driver displayed a handgun and shot herself.
Trooper Chad Crittenden said troopers and EMS personell attempted life saving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wichita Police were called to assist in the investigation which is on-going.
