A Wichita Police officer was shot and critically injured Saturday night in south Wichita.
The incident took place around 10:15 p.m., at a home in the 500 block of west Carlyle. Two WPD officers were responding to a welfare check call when a man inside the residence began shooting at the officers.
Our news partners at KSN-TV report one of the officers was shot multiple times and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The suspect continued to fire his weapon as more officers and emergency personnel arrived on the scene. The man was eventually shot and died at the scene.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are assisting in the case.
The name of the officer and the suspect has not been released.
