An 83-year-old woman who was visiting Yellowstone National Park last weekend was seriously injured after she was gored by a bison, park officials shared.
The woman is from Greenville, South Carolina, and was near the Storm Point Trail at Yellowstone Lake on Saturday when she ran into the animal, the park shared in a press release.
Park officials shared in a statement that the bison lifted her about a foot off the ground with its horns, causing serious injuries to the woman.
She was eventually taken to a medical clinic in the park and then flown to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
No other information about her condition or the incident has been released at this time.
Park officials did share that the bison was defending its space, and the attack is being investigated.
Parkgoers are advised to stay at least 25 yards away from all large animals and 100 yards away from bears and wolves while visiting.
