CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The parents of an 8-year-old boy from Grand Rapids who was severely injured over the summer when he fell off of a climbing wall at Navy Pier, have filed a lawsuit.

Erin and Gideon Brewer had made their annual trip to Navy Pier from Grand Rapids. Their boys love the climbing wall.

When it was George’s turn, his mom was recording and captured this:

The boy fell 24 feet. His parents said they didn’t notice that Navy Pier employees had not attached a rope to his harness.

"He let go to repel, which is what you are supposed to do, and he just dropped…It turned into the biggest nightmare of our entire life. It’s something that myself, my husband, George, George’s two brothers are dealing with every day,” Erin Brewer said.

“Every parent’s worst nightmare is to see something like that happen to your kid,” Gideon Brewer said.

Attorney Steve Levin is representing the family.

"Child safety, in this type of attraction, is a zero tolerance business…Not only didn’t they have George safety-fastened, they didn’t have protection on the ground,” Levin said.

The boy has had four surgeries and has another in January. His parents said he’s still dealing with physical and emotional injuries.
