(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago's 187th Birthday is next week, on March 4, and the luxury boutique hotel Pendry Chicago is serving up a hot dog and drink combo to mark the occasion.
The meal is not cheap and will set you back $187. If the average hot dog is consumed in six bites, that’s about $31 a mouthful.
“It’s a fun way to incorporate all these unique ingredients that I really love,” Executive Chef Mark Schumacher said Tuesday while showcasing his creation.
The admittedly indulgent hot dog includes French-style boudin blanc sausage served on a poppy seed bun with black truffle granulated mustard, seared foie gras and porcini rye crumble.

Fries are not included. But the specialty hot dog is served with a premium Old Fashioned cocktail with single-malt Scotch, cellar-aged Maker’s Mark and cherries and topped with gold flakes.
A little too stiff for you? The Pendry will also be offering a considerably cheaper hot dog that still sounds adventurous. For $28, you get the kitchen’s elevated take on the classic Chicago dog, which comes on Japanese milk bread with truffle gouda fondu, dill pickled green tomato and truffle mustard aioli.
The accompanying Old Fashioned uses Uncle Nearest Rye, Angostura bitters and Demerara sugar, the hotel says.
The specials will be available at Bar Pendry Friday March 1 through Monday.
