Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar has officially introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.
In her articles, which are co-sponsored by David Cicilline, Ted Lieu, Al Green, Hank Johnson, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Vicente Gonzalez, Jamal Bowman, Mondaire Jones, Veronica Escobar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Cori Bush, says that they believe that President Trump is no long fit for office. The letter reads:
"I invite you to join me in introducing a resolution to impeach Donald John Trump, President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors. Once again, Trump has violated his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of the Presient of the United States, and to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
The letter continues "Every single hour that Donald Trump remains in office, our country, our democracy and our national security remain in danger. Congress must take immediate action to keep the people of this country safe and set a precedent that such behavior cannot be tolerated."
Rep. Omar introduced the articles of impeachment after a group of pro-Trump supporters spent Wednesday storming the Capitol building where Congress was certifying the votes of the Electoral College. The session was stopped once the violent mob breached the Capitol and stormed into chambers. The session was restarted at 7pm CST and ended when Congress officially certified the win for President-elect Biden.
