The Kansas City Chiefs and star tight end Travis Kelce are reportedly close to reaching a deal that would bring the veteran back for a 14th NFL season.

According to an Associated Press source, Kelce intends to continue his career and remain in Kansas City, though the contract has not yet been finalized. The 36-year-old is expected to sign a one-year agreement to stay with the team he has played for since entering the league.

Kelce had been weighing retirement after the season but made his decision ahead of the start of free agency. He would return to an offense led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and coached by Andy Reid, both of whom have been central to Kansas City’s success during Kelce’s career.

Even in his 13th season, Kelce remained a key part of the Chiefs’ offense. Last year he led the team with 76 receptions, 851 receiving yards and five touchdowns while continuing to serve as one of Mahomes’ most reliable targets.

Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion and multiple-time All-Pro, has spent his entire career in Kansas City after being drafted in 2013. If the deal is completed, he would return for another run with the franchise as one of the most decorated tight ends in NFL history.
