10 years ago on this night, the #9-seed Wichita State men's basketball team defeated #2-seed Ohio State 70-66 at the NCAA tournament at the Staples Center in Los Angeles; with the win in the Elite 8, the Shockers advanced to the Final Four for the first time in 48 years, and only the second time in program history.
Malcolm Armstead led the Shockers with 14 points and seven rebounds; Cleanthony Early had a dozen points and seven rebounds, and freshman guard Fred VanVleet added 12 points off the bench. Carl Hall had six blocked shots, and freshman Ron Baker was 9-for-9 at the free-throw line.
With the win, WSU improved to 30-8 on the season, stopping the 11-game winning streak for 6th-ranked Ohio State.
