The Los Angeles Police Department has reported a fatal hit-and-run collision, which occurred Saturday evening in Playa del Rey.

A 33-year-old woman was crossing eastbound on Vista del Mar Boulevard, near Dockweiler State Beach, when she was struck by what investigators have described as a “dark-colored Chevy Equinox” traveling northbound. Other reports have described the vehicle as a dark-colored Toyota 4-Runner.

The woman in question was Wendy Galdamez of Downey. KTLA reported she spent the day with her husband and two children at the beach and was holding her three-year-old son when she was struck.

Galdamez was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The child was transported to UCLA Westwood Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

“It’s shocking. I can’t believe it still. We’re still in complete shock that this happened,” Galdamez’s cousin, Jennifer Vera, told KTAL. “My cousin, she was loving, nurturing, she was all about her family, she was so giving.”

Vera has set up a GoFundMe to assist Galdamez’s surviving husband and children with finances.

An investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information about the collision is encouraged to contact West Traffic Division Detectives at (213) 473-0234 or (213) 473-0222.
