NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who represents parts of Queens and the Bronx, revealed on Instagram Live Monday night that she is a sexual assault survivor.

While discussing the trauma of the deadly Jan. 6 siege on the U.S. Capitol, Ocasio-Cortez, 31, shared more trauma: "I’m a survivor of sexual assault, and I haven’t told many people in my life," she said, nearly in tears.

The congresswoman said that lawmakers who suggest the nation forgive and forget about the Capitol siege are akin to those who assault others and then tell the victim to forget about it.

"These folks who tell us to move on, that it's not a big deal, that we should forget what's happened, or even telling us to apologize, these are the same tactics of abusers," she said. "And, I’m a survivor of sexual assault, and I haven’t told many people that in my life. But when we go thought trauma, trauma compounds on each other."

Ocasio-Cortez said of the siege on the Capitol, "What I felt was, 'not again.' I'm not going to let this happen again."
