1 Year Anniversary of Borderline Bar Mass Shooting Honored with Healing Garden

Today marks one year since a Marine combat veteran armed with a Glock 21, a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun, opened fire on hundreds of innocent college students at a bar in Thousand Oaks.

Thursday a healing garden opened to the public, a tribute to the 12 victims, their families and the survivors.

Ian David Long, 28,  killed 12 people and injured nearly 130 in the Borderline Bar on that fateful November 7 -- mostly students from Cal Lutheran Univesity, Cal State University Channel Islands, Moorpark College and Pepperdine University in Malibu.

“To have this hat on... it’s something special to me.” Jason Coffman wore the hat his son Cody was wearing the night he died in the Borderline mass shooting. He joined family’s of the other victims at the Healing Garden dedication. ⁦@KNX1070pic.twitter.com/R6c5zpQLmk

Long, who likely suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, was found dead of a gunshot wound inside the bar on the night of the shooting. He was deployed to Afghanistan from Nov. 16, 2010 to June 14, 2011.

There are several tables like this set up in Conejo Creek North Park. They hold remnants of the granite boulder benches created to represent the #Borderline12 & oak tree saplings for people to take part of the Healing Garden home. @KNX1070 pic.twitter.com/Wl5ZDxlQWC
