Big Bear's beloved bald eagle chick has flown the nest.
San Bernardino National Forest spokesman Zach Behrens says Simba, a juvenile male, let out a call at 6:19 a.m. Tuesday and then took off.
But like most teens and even millennials, Simba will hang out with parents for at least a few months. He'll need to learn how to properly hunt and then will likely be off for good.
Simba was one of two eaglets hatched in April. His sister, Cookie, died on Memorial Day following a winter storm.
At long last, the Big Bear bald eagle has fledged! He took his first flight at 6:19 a.m.He will next remain in the area, learning to fly as his parents continue to care for him. Then, over the rest of the summer, we should see him around the lake being taught how to hunt. pic.twitter.com/crG1wZpbju
