Authorities gave the thumbs up Monday for retailers to reopen for in-store shopping with approval from county health officials.
Initially, only stores that had met the state's criteria were allowed to open in the second phase of California's four-stage recovery roadmap, but L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn pushed for the reopening of small businesses.
According to the state's website, only 12 of 58 counties have not attested for re-opening -- L.A. is one of the 12 -- the city with the highest number of covid19 cases.
L.A. County officials had not planned to reopen businesses until July 4.
Hahn tweeted the announcement saying, "ALL retail stores statewide will now be able to reopen for in-store shopping under the same rules Target and Walmart have been able to operate under throughout this crisis." She added that given Governor Newsom's approval, "This is an important step we can take now to shore up our economy by keeping our small businesses alive."

Retailers will still be required to maintain physical distancing, implement employee training, and ensure the safety of customers and workers.
