LOS ANGELES (CNS) - It sure seemed like the eighth time was the charm for Larry King.
But that dream appeared to end today when the famed talk-show host filed for divorce from his wife of 22 years, Shawn Southwick King.
King, 85, filed his divorce petition in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences. The petition states the couple married in September 1997 and separated June 6.
Shawn King, 59, is technically Larry King's seventh wife. He twice married and divorced the same woman, Alene Akins, so this split would be King's eighth divorce.
But there could still be hope. King filed for divorce from Shawn in 2010, but the couple wound up reconciling.
The website TMZ reported that the latest split dates back to April, when Larry King suffered an apparent heart attack. Sources told TMZ that while he was in the hospital, Shawn presented her husband with legal documents that would have given her certain rights to their property and would have adversely affected their two sons. The sons, feeling she was trying to interfere in their inheritance, allegedly pleaded with their father to end the marriage, TMZ reported.
