An arraignment is set today for one of two Compton men charged with an attack on YouTube performer Eden the Doll and two other transgender women in Hollywood last month.
On August 20, Carlton Callway, 29, was arrested in Bakersfield for assault with a deadly weapon and a hate crime. Willie Walker, 42, was arrested in Los Angeles for extortion on August 19.
Callaway is charged with one felony count each of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, battery with serious bodily injury, second-degree robbery, attempted second-degree robbery, criminal threats and grand theft from the person of another in connection with the Aug. 17 attack, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. He could face up to 13 years and four months in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Co-defendant Davion Anthony Williams is charged with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon -- a rideshare scooter -- and grand theft. An arraignment date has not been set for Williams, who could face a maximum of eight years and four months in state prison. Williams, who has not yet been arrested, allegedly joined the attack and stole from one of the women, according to the prosecutor.
He then refused to pay and the women left, police said.
The suspect approached them again with a metal bar and demanded one of the women's shoes and bracelet, police said. She complied out of fear, and the suspect grabbed her hand and forced her to walk a short distance with him before she could escape.
He then assaulted the second victim with a bottle, knocking the woman to the ground, according to police.
"My friend completely collapsed," Estrada said. "I'm not a doctor. I don't know if she's breathing. I'm trying my hardest to help her. I'm begging people for help. I'm screaming for help."
Estrada and her friends said the man took their phones, wallets and purses.
"Both victims are transgender women, and the suspect made derogatory remarks about their status during the crime," police said.
The approximately 25-year-old suspect is described as Black, 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, according to police. He was wearing a black tank top and black shorts.
Anyone with information about the suspect was urged to call the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Station at 213-972-2971.
