A possible strike involving teachers and school staff at the Los Angeles Unified School District is days away from happening, and some parents are hoping for a miracle.

LAUSD is still negotiating with three employee unions, but no agreement has been reached. If a deal isn’t reached, the strike will begin on Tuesday.

The teachers are asking for a 17% raise over two years, while the district has offered 8% and a one-time 3% bonus.

KNX News’ Jon Baird spoke with parents outside Marquez Charter Elementary School about how they’ll be impacted by the strike. Some parents and grandparents say they’re worried.

“He has two working parents, and it will be a big issue for us,” one woman said about her child.

We have four kids, so it'll be something that will be difficult for us to manage for sure since my wife and I are both out of the house,” one man said.

But other parents and grandparents say they’ll do their best to figure it out.

“We have grandparents in the area, so we are blessed with that,” oen woman said. “We'll figure it out.”

“Yes, I'll be helping, but it'll make things a little more complicated,” one man said. “But I think the teachers need to get paid.”

Another parent said she’ll support the teachers no matter what.

“We've had an amazing experience with our teachers and staff here, so whatever they need to do to support them,” she said.

District officials say even if there is a strike, the students will have access to take-home materials for online learning, and can provide devices and assistance options for home connectivity.
